| Applying for Federal Student Aid |
Fill Out Your FAFSA You need to fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every school year to receive student financial aid. First Time Applicants: • Print and complete a FAFSA on the Web Worksheet • Inform if you want to sign your application electronically employing your Federal Student Aid Personal Identification Number (PIN). • One of your parents will also have to sign your application if you are a dependent student. Your parent can sign electronically with a PIN too. Using a PIN is the fastest way to sign your application. It is not required to fill out and submit a FAFSA. Fill Out a Renewal FAFSA A Renewal Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is organized for students who applied for aid the previous year.
Sign Electronically with your PIN If you want to provide an electronic signature, choose the school year of the application you are signing, followed by whether you are signing as a student or a parent. The person who provide signature will be asked for identifying information and his/her PIN. Parents will also need to supply information about the student they are signing for.
Students and parents have to submit their electronic signatures separately. Remember: If you do not receive a confirmation number after submitting your electronic signature, the U. S. Department of Education has not received it.
Check Status You can also check the status of your application at any time. But it is advisable to check the status at the following times: • 3-5 days after submission - if you used a PIN to sign your application • 7-10 days after submission - if you printed, signed and mailed a signature page.
