types-scholarshipScholarships are awarded due to a wide range of criteria. Criteria reflect the merits and intentions of the giver or founder of the grant. Before applying for the scholarship read about their varieties to know what to can pretend for.

     In general scholarships may be classified into the following groups:

1. Institutional aid – scholarships awarded by certain university to a student with a condition that he will study in that institution.

2. Merit scholarship. This is financial aid for which financial need is not used to determine the recipient.  It is granted for student’s academic, artistic, athletic or others advanced abilities. This scholarship is a like financial incentive.

3. Need based – scholarship for which the student and family’s financial situation is the key-factor in determining the recipient. Such scholarships are supposed to cover tuition and living costs (partly or completely). It can also require the recipient to be distinguished student.  

4. Sociology. This is a financial aid for which applicants have to qualify by race, national origin or religion. After passing the ethnic stage of selection, students’ academic achievements are taken into consideration.

5. General scholarships – are awarded for different reasons which do not fit with above categories. (Some companies give scholarships their employee’s children etc.)

There is such term as a “bond” requirement for getting some scholarships. This means that awardee have to work for a certain employer for a particular period of time, or to work in village area.
