| Department Scholarships |
 At least eight scholarships are provided by this school, some of them are funded by private donations. Other departmental scholarships are funded by the university, by the particular department or by a corporation that produces products related to the department (ceramics, metals, computer technology).
Apparently, most departmental scholarships are unique to a university and a particular area of study, so parents and students interested in these departments should make a strong effort to come in contact with the school/department. It is desirable to speak with a school counselor or teacher who may have information about a specific area of study. In addition, making a list of some of the schools the student might want to attend can be a nice idea. Many universities advise starting this plan in the junior year of high school and no later than the first semester of the senior year.
Research opportunity is the delightful area of departmental scholarships. Some schools and departments not only attract good students to specialty areas with undergraduate tuition help, but also offer opportunities for  upper level students and graduate students to conduct research in the area of study. For instance, if you think you would like to study and live in the mountains of the American West but always thought this was just a dream, think again. One western university provides research opportunities in the mountain ranges of the west. Students who are interested in geology or the chemistry and biology of mountain life may be able to get a considerable amount of help through a scholarship or research funding.
One such opportunity offers different amounts of assistance to juniors or seniors for undergraduate study. Another is directed at graduate students in geology. Individuals fund nearly all of the scholarships and research grants in this very special area of study. For instance, a woman has set aside a large amount from her estate to help geology students with graduate study.
